Police said the deceased are 40-year-old Sabita Lamsal of Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City-4, 29-year-old Nikhil Agrawal of Hetauda-2 and 42-year-old Rajnish Kumar and 49-year-old Arvind Kumar of Bihar, India.
The identities of the remaining two men are yet to be confirmed. Their bodies are at Hetauda Hospital.
Lamsal was a teacher at Navodaya Shishu Sadan English Secondary School in Hetauda.
Three people were injured in the accident. The injured are driver Ganesh Thapa of Hetauda-4, Lamsal’s 12-year-old son Abhyas Lamsal, and 21-year-old Richa Chaudhary of Chandrapur Municipality-2, Rautahat.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Pushkar Bogati, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Makawanpur, said Thapa and Abhyas Lamsal were taken to Bharatpur for further treatment, while Chaudhary is receiving care at Hetauda Hospital.
The jeep was travelling from Kathmandu to Hetauda when it fell about 100 metres into a gorge. Authorities said the steep slope and the lack of railings make the location prone to accidents. The site is about three kilometres northeast of the Bhimphedi Area Police Office.
Three years ago, a vehicle carrying Foreign Employment Board chief Thaneswar Devkota also crashed at the site, killing two people, including Devkota.
