Five people were killed when a truck carrying marble overturned at Phulchok in Bhokraha Narsingh Rural Municipality, Sunsari, on Thursday morning.
The truck was heading towards Sunsari along the Postal Highway after loading marble in Biratnagar when it went out of control and overturned on the road.
District Police Office, Sunsari, said all five victims died on the spot. Deputy Superintendent of Police Chandra Khadka said the workers were sitting on top of the marble load and were crushed by the slabs when the truck overturned.
The identities of the deceased have not yet been established. Two others injured in the accident were taken to Birat Teaching Hospital in Biratnagar for treatment. Police said an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
