Complaint filed against five cops over disappearance of Dolpa youth

    -

A complaint has been filed against five police personnel, including an assistant sub inspector (ASI), over the disappearance of a local youth in Dolpa. The complaint was registered at the District Police Office, Dolpa.

The accused include ASI Hemraj Karki, in charge of the Area Police Office, Khadang, police constables Lal Bahadur Gharti, Bhagirath Jaisi, Ashok Saud, and Narendra Khadka, who was on a patrol duty in the area. All five will face charges related to the disappearance of an individual, according to police sources.

The complaint was filed by Dhanamati Rokaya, wife of the missing youth, Jun Rokaya. Locals lifted an indefinite transport strike that had halted movement in the area after the complaint was filed.

On Sunday evening, a verbal agreement was reached between locals and police in Tripurasundari Municipality-1, Tripurakot, regarding taking a legal action against all police involved in the incident.

According to police, 34-year-old Rokaya, from Lha village, allegedly jumped into the Thuli Bheri river in panic during a police check on Friday evening. Four policemen had reached Chepke Bridge, about three kilometres from the Khadang Police Office, for a routine check led by ASI Karki.

Search operations for the missing youth have continued for two days without success. A team of 11 police personnel is currently searching along rivers in neighbouring Rukum West and Jajarkot districts. The Thuli Bheri, which feeds into the Bheri river, later merges with the Karnali river.

Relatives of Rokaya allege he went missing due to police action. Police maintain that he panicked and jumped into the river when they tried to search him on suspicion of drug trafficking.
