A Nepali national accused of threatening the chief commissioner of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has been arrested in the Philippines after an international police alert was issued at Nepal Police’s request.
Prakash Pathak was apprehended in Malolos City by the Philippines’ Bureau of Immigration (BI) Fugitive Search Unit, following a diffusion notice circulated by Interpol on charges of extortion, criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust. BI has also published his details and a photograph on its website.
Kathmandu District Court had issued an arrest warrant against Pathak on December 1 for criminal breach of trust. The information was shared with the Philippine authorities, prompting coordinated action to track him down.
Philippine immigration authorities said Pathak had been involved in encouraging Nepali fugitives not to surrender, providing them with financial backing, and suggesting he had access to weapons.
Their official statement also indicated he was linked to a broader plot to assassinate a high-ranking foreign government official. He had entered the Philippines on August 18, 2025 and was authorised to stay until December 18.
Pathak had publicly described himself as leader of a radical organisation and issued threats to kill Prem Kumar Rai, chief commissioners of the CIAA. Kathmandu Police had earlier arrested three of his associates in connection with the case.
His arrest aligns with information previously shared by the Philippine authorities.
Pathak will remain in BI custody until deportation procedures are completed, Philippine officials said.
