A boiler explosion at Jyoti Distillery in Katahariya Municipality of Rautahat district claimed the life of one worker and left six others seriously injured on Saturday morning, police said.
The incident occurred at around 9 am at the distillery located in Katahariya Municipality–9.
According to the District Police Office, Rautahat, the boiler exploded while operations were underway, triggering a major industrial accident and causing significant damage to the facility.
District Police Office Rautahat Information Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bishnu Pradeep Basyal said that 45-year-old Laxman Rai Yadav of Baluwa village, Katahariya Municipality–8, died on the spot due to the impact of the explosion.
Six other workers sustained serious and moderate injuries in the incident.
The injured have been identified as 45-year-old Rahmod Alam, 35-year-old Pramjit Yadav, 55-year-old Bigan Yadav, 40-year-old Kailash Mali, and 51-year-old Bigan Yadav, all living in the same location as the distillery, along with 40-year-old Mukesh Yadav of Mohammadpur, Garuda Municipality–5.
According to police, the injured were provided primary treatment before being referred to Birgunj by ambulance for further medical care.
The explosion caused extensive damage to the distillery premises, officials said. Police have initiated an investigation to determine the actual cause of the boiler blast.
DSP Basyal said the immediate priority of the security agencies is the treatment and survival of the injured workers. He added that, considering potential risks, security personnel have cordoned off the distillery area and tightened security arrangements.
The distillery has been placed under close police monitoring, and the industry owner has been instructed to focus on the medical treatment of the injured, police said.
Further investigation into safety compliance and the circumstances leading to the explosion is underway, police said.
