Sammilito Sangbadik Parishad paid floral tributes at the mausoleums of Martyred President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and offered prayers seeking eternal peace for their departed souls.
The programme was held on Tuesday at the mausoleums of Martyred President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia located in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar of the capital. Leaders and members of the organization paid homage with due respect and participated in special prayers.
After placing floral wreaths, special doa and munajat were offered seeking peace for the souls of Martyred President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia. A one-minute silence was also observed in their memory.
Among those present were Sammilito Sangbadik Parishad General Secretary Jalal Uddin Jewel, Senior Joint General Secretary Golam Faruk Majnu, Executive Members Mohammad Jamal Hossain, Sobuj Bepari, Mohammad Kamrul Islam, Abdullah Al Noman, along with leaders and members from different levels of the organization.
Speaking on the occasion, the leaders said that Martyred President Ziaur Rahman was an unforgettable leader of independence and democracy. His contributions to post-independence nation-building, the establishment of multi-party democracy, and ensuring press freedom will always be remembered with deep respect by the nation. Likewise, Begum Khaleda Zia played a significant role in upholding democracy, the rule of law, and freedom of the media.
Chairman of Communication of Bangladesh (COB) and Senior Joint General Secretary of Sammilito Sangbadik Parishad, Golam Faruk Majnu, said, “Martyred President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia always respected the independent voice of journalists. Their ideals and vision will remain a source of inspiration for us. Their contributions to protecting journalists’ rights and democracy will never be forgotten.”
He further added that Sammilito Sangbadik Parishad will continue to work in the future to uphold free media, truth, and objective journalism. The programme concluded in a peaceful and solemn atmosphere.
